Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water (make sure it’s not too hot)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • In a large bowl combine the water (lukewarm), honey, melted butter, and the yeast. Let sit until foamy (about five minutes).
  • After the five minutes, add in the flours and salt. On a floured surface, knead for 10-15 minutes until smooth and mostly non-sticky (sprinkle as needed with more flour). Note: I usually knead by hand, but I’m sure you can use a bread machine if you prefer..
  • Allow the dough to sit in the bowl (covered) for around 45 minutes until double in size.
  • Deflate the dough and knead for a minute. Then form it into cylinder shape - and fit into greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • *Preheat your oven to 375 degrees* Cover the dough and let it rise again for about 35 -45 minutes until risen about an inch above the pan.
  • Bake for 28-30 minutes until browned to your liking.
*If you’d like, brush the top of the dough gently with an egg wash (egg white + 1/4 teaspoon water or milk) before baking - or wait until after the bread is finished baking and brush it with some melted butter*
